Meet the Team
Offploy prides itself on being a commercially responsible social enterprise. This means that whilst we are a community interest company and our sole purpose is to support people with convictions into employment we will do this with the lowest possible impact to the public purse. Our team ensures our activities continue to be of benefit to both our candidates and society.
Employment Advisor Co-ordinator
Prior to my conviction, which was a driving offence, I worked as a teaching assistant in a local high school. I had been there for 12 years, and was quite sad when I had to resign, because of my offence. This was rock bottom for me, but I plodded along and got on with my community order. Towards the end of my time on probation, I was approached by Helen Gunn, who is the Peer Mentor Coordinator for CRC Probation in this region. She was looking for volunteers to work in a number of different roles within the Probation service. After my training, I opted to help out with the group induction sessions, which are in place as a first introduction to being on an order. Before long, I was running the sessions, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I was finally feeling valued again. After around 6 months of doing this volunteer role, Helen once again asked me if I wanted to do something different. She said there was a volunteer role for a company called Offploy, which help people with criminal convictions back into work. I was so grateful of all the opportunities I had been given, I wanted to give something back, so I applied for the position. Why should people not be given a second chance?
About a week after my interview, Jacob Hill rang me, and offered me a paid position 3 days a week. I was over the moon. Imagine, going from thinking I was unemployable, to having a paid job again!
Since my start at Offploy in July 2018, I have seen my role as coordinator grow and grow. I am now full time, and we have over 150 candidates with us now. I handle all the data for the Hull office, which our Research Officer then interprets into statistics. I also see our candidates as and when needed, and I handle some finances for the Hull office. Going from being the only one in the Hull office at the start, to being part of a team of 7, plus volunteers, this is the most amazing job I have had. The satisfaction you feel when a candidate tells us he has a job, or has completed training is great. You are helping them to realise the same thing as I did. Everyone is worthy of a second chance, and you shouldn’t let mistakes of the past define your future.
