We are a social enterprise formed by ex-prisoners to help those with convictions secure employment and lead a positive life.
Formed in 2016 by Yorkshire’s Young Entrepreneur of the year, Jacob Hill, Offploy is on a mission to support people with criminal convictions into meaningful, mentored and sustainable employment. This helps the UK fill its chronic skills shortage, reduces reoffending and makes society safer.
After being sentenced to 28 months in prison for possession with intent to supply drugs, Jacob Hill, the son of two retired police officers expected prison to be just like how he had seen it in the movies.
There is a clear research evidence base to suggest that getting paid work is one of the most important factors involved in people with a criminal history living fulfilled and lawful lives.
A person with convictions can fill their time constructively and become economically independent.
Employment facilitates reintegration into the wider society by helping individuals to move away from their criminal networks and develop social relationships with law-abiding, pro-social individuals.
Being in paid employment enhances individuals’ self-esteem and helps them to build a renewed and positive sense of self, which helps to protect against returning to criminal behaviour and/or relapse into associated problems such as drug use.
The status of being an employed person acts as an important symbol to the individual of their ability to return successfully to a conventional life.
Critically, the research base identifies that the factor which showed the strongest independent association with getting a job was receiving dedicated help with this – which is exactly what Offploy provides.
Offploy Justice Personnel provides staff, typically without criminal convictions, to the justice sector and reinvests 100% of the surplus into our social mission of supporting people with convictions to secure employment.

We are not just about dropping someone with a criminal conviction at an employer’s doorstep and wishing them the best of luck. Offploy works with candidates through a nine-step candidate journey to ensure they have the best chances of securing and sustaining employment.
Three of our stages are around education and our team of trained social employment advisors will deliver and refer candidates to courses specific to their developmental needs and our employer’s requirements.
Offploy delivers a range of courses centred around motivation and employability as well as employer specific courses from CSCS card certification to business administration and customer service.
Delivering social services, placing people into work and reporting on the impact of the work we do is a trusted and privileged position and whilst our sector is unregulated we still believe we should hold ourselves to a high standard.
Offploy’s Social Policy and Research Team works closely with a number of universities on research projects to ensure our interventions continue to be relevant and evidence-based.

Employing people with criminal convictions is a relatively new concept to employers, the government and the media yet the notion is starting to gain a lot of interest.
Offploy consistently submits opinion pieces to the press, speaks at conferences and shares the challenges of both our employers and candidates at a government level.
Meet the Team
Offploy prides itself on being a commercially responsible social enterprise. This means that whilst we are a community interest company and our sole purpose is to support people with convictions into employment we will do this with the lowest possible impact to the public purse.
