Our Employer Launch Event on 22 July was a huge success, bringing together dozens of employers and a glittering line-up of speakers who shared their expertise and passion for fair chance hiring.

Dominic Headley (of DHA) spoke about the legal and practical importance of avoiding over and under-disclosure.  Keith Rosser (BHI / Reed in Partnership) perfectly captured the mood, saying: “Social Value isn’t about business doing good – this does good for business.”

Sally Eley (Chair of the CIPD Trust), chaired a panel discussion with Joe Lofts (Transport for Wales) and Leo Cardoso (JDM Food Group) on how the toolkit will help HR professionals. Jacob Hill led a discussion with Jo Potts (Balfour Beatty) and Sarah MacGregor (Sunbelt Rentals) on the importance of Social Value to inclusive hiring.

Each session offered practical insight and encouragement for employers looking to recruit inclusively. The energy, engagement and open discussion throughout the day left us feeling inspired and motivated to push this work even further.

Next Up: Employing Veterans’ With Convictions Event – 9 September

Looking ahead, we’re excited for September’s launch event focusing on veterans in the criminal justice system and the businesses that welcome them, run in partnership with Pauline King from Yorkshire & Humber RFCA

By the Numbers: Real Impact, Real People

Since the launch of www.disclosuretoolkit.org

  • Over 2,100 people have used the Disclosure Calculator to check whether their conviction is spent or still needs to be disclosed

  • We’ve seen dozens more sign-ups to the “R3 Certificate” in Reintegration and Reducing Reoffending—our accredited training course for frontline staff and advisers

  • People are reaching out to our team for advice and guidance on what they legally need to disclose and how to explain it

  • Organisations across justice, education and employment support are embedding the toolkit into their practice and policy

This is a clearer, fairer, and more compassionate approach to supporting people with convictions into work.

Feedback Received:

We’ve had a couple of reports of the calculator screen appearing blank for some users. In all cases, the cause was internal systems initially blocking access—so if this happens, a quick check with your IT should resolve it.

Do let us know if you have any issues or questions by using our feedback form on the toolkit or by emailing: support@disclosuretoolkit.org

What Next?

Next on our development list is expanding the calculator to include Scotland’s rehabilitation periods, making the tool fully GB-wide. If you have knowledge of Scotland’s legal system and would like to help us develop this drop an email to Rik@Offploy.org

Let Us Help You:

Whether you’re signposting someone applying to work for you, reviewing your own disclosure history, or updating your HR policies, the toolkit is FREE, simple, and ready when you are.
